Over the next six months our staff will organize, prepare, and submit a new Ready To Learn grant that is focused on creating Community Collaboratives for Early Learning & Media. This grant will support our work to enhance community relationships and transform our educational programming using the PBS Kids Family Creative Learning model. This model, a learning format originally developed at MIT, will provide for a series of sessions that engage families in project-based creative learning. Designed for families with kids ages 5-8 (and younger/older siblings), the sessions use creative play and exploration to introduce kids and grown-ups to digital and tangible tools that can be used to develop science and engineering knowledge, practices, and perspectives. Through child-led projects, the sessions aim to foster collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills among family members while empowering them to explore, create, and express themselves with media and technology.

So what about events now, this year? We still have a lot of work to do getting our grant proposal together. We are hopeful that by May of 2018 we will know whether or not this exciting new project will be funded. We will share that information as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact us at: education@prairiepublic.org.
